Join KAI LIN ART as we host the sixth Open Call for our annual juried works on paper exhibition: THE NEW SOUTH 6. This year’s exhibition will encompass a range of themes, styles and techniques celebrating the largely versatile medium of paper.

The competition is open to both emerging and established artists who have lived or worked in the Southeast. Please submit your artwork and application form before Friday, December 6, 2024!

 
 

JURORS

Chloe Alexander + Tim Flowers

Chloe Alexander is a printmaker who lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia. Her most recent work focuses on using various printing techniques to create unique works and varied editions. She obtained a BFA from the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University in 2010. Since then, her work has been exhibited broadly, including at Claire Oliver Gallery in Harlem, the International Print Center in New York, and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair in London. Chloe has received several awards, including the Parent Artist Award at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California and the Penland Summer Residency Fellowship at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. Her work is included in numerous public and private collections, including the Harvard Museums in Cambridge, MA; The Museum of Fine Art in Boston, MA; The Fidelity Investments Art Collection; and The Petrucci Family Foundation for African American Art in Asbury, NJ.

Tim Flowers is a painter. He came to Atlanta to join the School of Art & Design Faculty at Georgia State University in August of 2001. He received his MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and his BFA from the University of Oklahoma. Prior to his appointment at GSU he taught at Louisiana State University and at the Rhode Island School of Design. In the summers of 1999, 2000 and 2002 he taught a study abroad course, Art in the Outback, in Australia. Exhibition highlights include a solo exhibition ‘Anonymous Portraits of People You Know’ at the WSAD Gallery, Atlanta and a two-person show ‘Fanatic’ at Upfor Gallery, Portland, OR. He has recently been involved with the Brains and Behavior Conference through Georgia State University, pairing researchers and artists in collaboration and performance.

ENTRY CRITERIA

• All artwork must include paper in some form and be created by the artist within the last 5 years.
• Artists under the age of 18 must have signed parental consent.
• Artwork must not exceed 40 inches in any direction.
• Submitting artists must have lived or worked in the Southeastern Region, USA.
• Artists may submit up to five (5) images for the $30 application fee
• Printed Photography is accepted

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• All submissions must be made online per instruction on kailinart.com/thenewsouth on or before
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, 2024 before 11:59 PM
• Images must be high quality JPEG format between 1MB – 2MB, 300DPI, 1,500 pixels wide.
• Title images, “ARTIST LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_TITLE_MEDIUM_DIMENSIONS (inches)”.
